Week Four - e=mc2, four forces, and gravity

How has e=mc2 affected you?

With e=mc2 in my life,  kinetic energy is defined by the mass and the speed of light squared.

This equation I learned in school mostly to explain why the United States had atomic bombs during World War II. Now, we can see in most things that produce hear (like ovens and heaters). It also contributes to the use of the energy source for cell phones, tvs, internet. All in all, it contributes to many of what we see around us, we just don't always realize it.

How would you compare the four "forces"?
Strong nuclear force, Electromagnetic force, and weak nuclear force would all be similar in the sense that they are determined by an force acting on a distance without having actual direct contact. Gravity would be the exception because it is based on the force that draws you in. Such as the gravity that keeps the earth orbiting around the sun, or objects and people anchored to the ground (unless of course there is a force that is going against gravity)

What is the function of gravity?
I remember in elementary school we would go to the American Museum of Natural History. In the planetarium, you could weigh yourself on different plants - you would see your weight on earth, then on Pluto, Mars, Saturn - you name it!  My classmates and I had a blast seeing how heavy we would be on each planet and how drastically it would change.

Although we may weigh differently, gravity's function is is the same - it keeps the planets in orbit, and here on earth, it keeps everything to stay on earth.

Week Eight - Loafing

I am not a dog person.

And yet, somehow I have a little pup. Lil' Michelle "Mo" Obama has been a lot of work, and with each day I see how much having a dog has changed my life. Despite her possible grass allergy, Mo loves to play fetch.

My daily loafing is sitting in my home, ball or toy "stick" in my hand, playing fetch with Mo. She can only play for 10min tops, but within those minutes, time really does seem to slow down. I can feel my energy change. There is no stress and I don't think about anything else. I feel at ease and am filled with joy when I see how happy this pup is when doing the same thing over and over again.

As a practitioner to be, it is my job to help my patients have moments in their days where they can just stop and breathe. To let the constant "To Do" list stop for a second, and for them to take time for themselves. Whenever this is possible, their energy will shift. Their qi will begin to flow in a different wave. In these moments of calm, I believe we can change our energy and self heal.

I completely understand that sometimes 10min is not possible for everyone. This is why it is important to provide this for others when we can.
-------------------
I stopped by a local shop a few doors down from ACCHS. There, I was talking to a group of black women and they were telling me of an event that happens annual called something along the lines of Black Women Dreaming. It is a project in which black women go to an airbnb, and they are are able to sleep for 2 hours or over night uninterrupted. Their pillows are blessed by indigenous people. They are asked how they would like to be awaken, they are asked if they want food, if they want hot tea, etc.  It is a minimum of 2 hours of peace and calm. It is a time that they can take for themselves in order to be catered to instead of having to cater to others.

One women at the event admitted that they haven't been awaken in such a peaceful way in over 10 years. Usually it is a child crying them awake, or a husband shaking them up. A calm, gentle touch in order to wake up was something they had not experienced.

My other loafing is waking up when I want on the weekends. Yes, sometimes I have to wake up at a certain time. However, on days that there is not a strict schedule, I wake up with no alarm. No feeling rushed. Just a slow and relaxed.

Talking to these women is a reminder that I must be aware of the luxuries I have, and to hopefully more events like this one in order to help others have a moment to themselves, a time for self healing with no interruptions.

Week Six - "good" vibrations, resonance, and energy & qi

Something that really struck me in class was when Larry mentioned that are physical selfs are highly condensed energy. This concept immediately made me think of out connection to our entire selves being entirely made out of Qi. From Qi we can break down and look a the smaller and smaller parts of us, but as a whole - we are Qi.

As physical beings made up of energy and qi, it is easy as a practitioner to then visualize how one needle penetrating a person's skin can make a huge difference. That needle is creating a wave effect (can we even call it a vibration?) throughout the entire body. As a practitioner, I can feel the vibration of the qi, I can feel the qi, I feel the energy moving. Even better, practitioners are able to move the energy with the needle as well as with their own energy.  We are the conductors of qi in hopes to regain a sense of symmetry in our bodies and regain a harmonic balance.

This can also be seen in the reverse. With one pathogenic factor penetrating past the wei qi, our bodies are hit with not so "good" vibrations, causing disharmony and imbalance.

As stated in our handout, when building a bridge we have to build smarter, not stronger. We have to figure out the frequencies in order to stop the bridge from breaking down when another resonance meets its same frequency.

As with humans, we have to nurture and heal our bodies smarter. Its not always about the strongest medication, but the consistency and knowledge we have in order to achieve a healthy life.

Week Five - (a)symmetical world and CP violation

I love to look at the (a)symmetical world in relation to Traditional Chinese Medicine.

With a balance of Yin and Yang - everyone would be (in theory) a perfect balance. With this harmony, we would not have pathogenic invading our bodies because our bodies would be in a constant state of health.

With asymmetical world , we see the individual-ness of each person. Our different constitutions are evident, and it is easy to see that each person is battling the Xie qi in all different ways.

With the same idea in mind, the CPT theorem creates a standard and a symmetrical system. Even though this helps to set up a consistency, when the CP is violated, it reminds us that not everything can fit into a mold. Just like the weather, tot everything can be predicted. And even though some scientists may want a fool proof theorem, for me the CP violation reminds us that with non-consistancy comes the challenge to always question what we see. To not create a one size fit all equation to everyone - especially when finding ways to heal a person and bring them back to a symmetrical, Yin/Yang balance of health.

Week Two - Uncertainty, Causality, and the Universe being Wierd

Uncertainty is something some western scientists won't admit to. It is this inability for flexibility that may hinder new findings from happening and changes in "facts". If Einstein never quested what was already there, then would E=MC2 even exist? Would we still think the world was flat?  It takes someone to question what is there, to dive into the uncertainty to be able to find something new and valuable.

In acupuncture, each person we meat is an uncertainty. The same treatment might not work the same from one person to the next. So we are practitioners must open our eyes to the unexpected in order to be successful. We cant local needle every pain, we cant only relay on one theory to diagnosis a patient. The ability to adapt and question even our own knowledge will lead to a greater success.

Causality is the cause and effect, why something occurs. I think about when someone has a life lesson to learn and how it keeps appearing in their lives. Again and again they meet people who push their boundaries. Do they continually allow people to push them down and which causes the cycle to continue? Or do they raise to the occasion and stand up for themselves?

Why do these situations keep occurring? What is the purpose?

I think the Universe is weird because it has consistent inconsistencies.  I think when we stop looking at the universe linearly we can see the aspects of the universe we are uncertain about. With this new point of view, we can stop imposing what we think is supposed to be there and see its natural patterns.

Week Three - Synchronicity and Connectivity

Week 3

Everything happens for a reason.

A belief that was instilled in me when I was young. Little did i know that this idea went hand in hand with synchronicity. I think it is hard to prove synchronicity because how do you define a meaningful experience? How do you measure what someone feels? My understanding of synchronicity, it is based off of a meaningful experience. In this case, a person has to be aware of the significant of a moment in time.  It requires people to live in the moment, to slow down and take notice of the human interactions that we have with others.

This culture, taking the time to find these moments are not always prioritized. And people are not always given the space to figure out what what the experience means to them - what is it telling them about themselves or what they need to be doing in their lives.

In order to find the evidence for synchronicity, one would have to look at the many instances in people lives that were coincidences. And see if those moments sparked a meaningful moment, a life changing change of events, or a peculiar interaction.

Connectivity
I first think of soul mates. I believe that your spirit is born again and again, each time interacting with many spirits. Then in this life time, you have an instant connection with someone as if you have met them before because you have just in a different life time. I have met many soul mates in this lifetime that I know I have met before. Often times it is like we can read each others minds without talking.

When I was 2 i lost my hearing. And when I regained it, I my speech develop was way behind everyone else. Only my mother could understand what I was saying. Then I was sent to preschool. No child could understand what I was saying, except one person - Sarah. She instantly became my best friend and translated for me. Without her I would have no friends. She was my soul mate.

When I was 18 I traveled with a friend, Tessa, to India to visit her family. Most of her relatives only talked Malayalam including her younger cousin, Thomaskuti. Even though he and I could not speak the same language, we could read each other minds. This little boy and I would talk to each other without knowing what each other would say. I would think something and suddenly he would bring it to me. He was my soul mate.

When I was 19  when I met a woman, Pilar, who became my assistant stage manager. She would remember things I forgot, she would be there every time I was there. We became one - so much so that I didn't realize. I wasn't until after the performance when she wrote me a letter, she said I was her soul mate. And I realized she was. I could see our past lives together and it made my heart glow. To this day I call her my other half.

We are connected, in this life time and from life times ago We just need to take the time and feel the connections. To believe they are there.

A Little About Me

Hello Physics class!

Born and raised in Brooklyn. I moved to the Bay around 3 years ago. I started my life here working at an herbal retail store and realized that retail was not for me. However, the medicine was something I wanted to learn more about. I started to work for an acupuncturist and was amazed at how many people were being healed each day. I realized I could be a healer and help people every day without having to work a second job.  I could become a TCM practitioner.

I went to ACTCM for two semesters and within 2 trimesters, my life changed for the better. I had life changing experiences that shaped me to who I am today. However, I learned that the universe had another plan for me. I transferred to ACCHS and so far it has been a great fit for me!

By the end of day 1, I knew that I would enjoy this Physics class. it challenges me to stop and think about life. It makes me be more conscious of the world around me and be more mindful of my life.

We can slow down time. As a stage manager, especially when i called shows for dance, time was on my side. I could hear every note, i saw every movement. And with time going at such a slow pace, I could cue the lights exactly on time. It was truly an amazing experience and sometimes I wonder how to slow down time again.

Culturally, I think time is sometimes based on a big picture. A plan is structured for many people of when a child should know how to walk and talk, when a person should "act like an adult", when a person should be married and have children. The list goes on. For me, it is also a cultural idea of how to managing our time. Growing up in NY, you had to balance at least 3 projects/jobs and give immediate response when asked a question. There was no chance to stop and think.
There was not much time to stop and figure out what you really wanted. I came to the Bay to slow down. I have time to heal myself without the pressure of doing more. I can tell people I want to think about it and will respond to them the next day and most people will allow me that time.  I am given time.

I think a parallel universe is possible. With time constantly shifting, how could there not be a moment that could be different, and hence the alternate possibility is then played out. Or maybe even with the idea of we are reborn and reborn again - but the multiples lives that we live are being lived at the same time. That your soul is living another life in a parallel universe. Thus explaining why we have some connections with people - they are a part of the other life that we lived or are currently living some place else.

Biophysics - Bionics

Would you support the development of a "bionic" person Would your view change if this were for a military person? On one hand ...
